Liz Lyons | Person Centred Counselling: Welcome

Hi, I appreciate you taking the time to stop and read my profile- I understand that it can be a nerve-wracking experience. My aim is to give you an idea about who I am and how I work, as I believe the most important thing is that we feel comfortable working with each other from the beginning. Then hopefully we can build a relationship that flows easily, and you can talk to me about your difficulties, your dilemmas and your emotional states and feel really heard.

About me

My way of working is person-centred, which is a humanistic approach. For me this means I would want to relate to you as one human being to another, in a warm and compassionate way. I believe that for our counselling relationship to work there has to be honesty, mutual respect and openness. I would not want to judge you, criticise you or give you advice.

In the five years I have been seeing clients I have really enjoyed working with people of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds, male and female. As I see more clients I am learning more and more about how our unique experience of life, our background, family and social connections all influence how we are as people.

My approach is to try and understand the world from your point of view, to see things through your eyes, from what you tell me. I feel that I can also bring some of my own experience to you – I have lived in London and in Europe, and now I am settled and living in the beautiful countryside with my family and friends.

How counselling can help

It seems to me that although we may all see the world through different eyes we come to counselling because we are in emotional difficulty or pain. So what I notice in counselling sessions is that we may start out with one topic of discussion and end up talking about everything, and how what happens in life relates to how we feel.

Having someone there who listens to us and tries to understand what we are saying really seems to make an enormous difference. Clients tell me it helps them understand their own emotions and see their experience from a different perspective, and they feel more able to move forward with life again.

Training qualifications and experience

I am a member of the BACP and I am a qualified person-centred counsellor with a degree from the university of Worcester.

I am used to working with people who have a wide range of issues, including relationship and work problems, bereavement, low self-esteem, stress and anxiety, self harm and addictions, feelings of depression, low mood and suicidal thoughts.

Over the five years I have been practising, I have worked with clients who are survivors of emotional, physical or sexual abuse. This work is helping me develop an in depth understanding and insight into issues such as PTSD, flashbacks, panic attacks, hyper vigilance, high anxiety, personality disorders such as DID or BPD, OCDs, self harming in any form, difficulties with relationships and suicidal tendencies.

Where and how I work

I see clients for private counselling in a therapy room at home or at locations in Warwick, Stratford or Southam. These therapy rooms are all in convenient and pleasant locations where the surroundings and staff are friendly and privacy and discretion are considered to be paramount. My home base therapy room is within easy reach of the M40 at junction 11 (Banbury) and is in a quiet location. My room has easy access and there is parking directly outside.

I am flexible in terms of offering sessions during the daytime and evenings during the week. They are usually on a weekly basis with no restriction on the number of sessions required – this is client led.

It is also possible to arrange phone sessions.

You may find you want to begin sessions and have a break and return for more so I am flexible on this too.

Fees: I charge a ‘try out’ fee of £25 for the first session so you can decide whether you feel comfortable working with me, and £45 thereafter.

I offer appointments during the day and some evenings.

Please contact me by text, email or phone to ask any questions and arrange an appointment.
